What a weekend!Date: 03/05/2004 It was a weekend with the lot this week!
First off I went down to Canberra for the 12 hours of darkness mountain bike race. It was held from 6pm Saturday until 6am Sunday. And it was fricken cold! At 9.30pm it was already down to 0 degrees, we figure it got down to about -3 or -4 (not helped by a clear sky above ) We came 5th out of 6 teams and you can see our results here. The laps were intesting (not in a good way!) - the first kilometre and a half were made up of single track weaving trough trees, the next kilometre and a half were pretty flat along a fire trail, then came the evil hill! It was a kilometre of straight uphill that you just had to churn away at (in granny gear for most of it!), the next kilometre and a half was a slight downhill so oyu could get some speed and the last 500 metres were a quick steep hill followed by a longer steep downhill and to finish with either the north shore section (riding on planks and ramps) or the chook run (longer with no real challenges). It was a 6.06Km track all up. The first lap of mine is actually 1.75 laps as they made skip the single track on the first time around and then do it all on the second (to space us out more). The details from my heart-rate and bike computer were:
Lap 1 - 55.56 (55.48 official) 159 Ave HR 1113 Cals
Lap 2 + 3 - 1:05.18 (33.29 + 32.29) 155 Ave HR 1249 Cals 12.12Km
Lap 4 - 30.19 (29.09) 158 Ave HR 597 Cals 6.06Km
Oh and the laps of Scott's after my last two runs should be a lot lower as they didn't expect me in so early on them and I had to tell Scott to go out
At 7am Sunday morning I (well defrosted the car first as it was white!) left the site (it was about 35Km from Queanbeyan - where the rally Australia is being held this weekend, so I got to hammer around the tracks they will use ) and headed to the footy at Drummoyne. 340Kms and 3.5 hours later I arrive at the oval (I would have been on time to play too! Except I only had about 2 hours sleep so I don't think I would be in the best state of mind!) I was the personal hydration specialist again (yeap - waterboy ). But the reserves got their first win this season and hopefully we can go from there The ladder
While on footy, the Dees thrashed the Blues and are now second on the ladder (and Collingwood are last, this is truly a great year )
I have been to footy training again tonight (nearly didn't go as I wasn't sure if it was on, but Luffy replied to my email about 15 minutes before I would have left work so no sitting on the couch for me ) I did about 2000 calories between training and riding to and from training (about 12.5Kms - damn the bike is getting a workout!)
My current injury list:
Bruised ribs (from the Sunday week ago footy game)
Cuts and bruises (most are from the bike ride)
Sore butt (from the bike seat - I have resorted back to the gel seat)
Maybe I'm too old for this
Oh and just incase you were thinking I'm getting soft - the next fricken taxi that even looks at me funny let alone beeps me for not being as fast as they want will cop my foot firmly up their arse > I wouldn't be so pissed if it wasn't for the fact that taxis are the worst fricken drivers out there! They block lanes because they feel they are more important then anyone else, yet they feel slighted when I'm peddling my butt off yet they have an engine doing the work for them.
Anyways, off to bed now!
Later,
Steve
