HypocrisyDate: 23/05/2004 Well I got about 10 minutes of field time at footy and I think all I managed to do was get a tackle and a shepard. But on the plus side, Balmain won the reserves by 5 points Hopefully we will be in the four by the end of next week.
Apart from that, these are some things that have made me wonder in the last week (and scarily they all seem to relate to rugby league!).
1) With Mark Gasnier recently getting in trouble for making phone calls when drunk, he has been forced to accept what he has done while drunk. Which is the standard acceptance of what happens when drunk - like killing someone while driving drunk. Yet in our legal system we have this unique case where if a person can't remember consenting to sex because they were drunk then they are let off for this fact. It seems dumb to have this dual standard in the legal system when it comes to getting drunk. Now I could understand if someone had their drinks spiked, but if someone goes out and gets drunk (and this goes for women accepting drinks from guys - if hes telling you what is in them then you have no excuse, or vise versa) then they should accept what happens to them! There is always the option to drink responsably.
2) This brings us to my next gripe. The NRL have come out and stated that Willie Mason has ADHA. This is used to defend the fact that he has done some dumb stuff recently. What has happened to person responsabilty? There is always an excuse these days for why something isn't that person's fault. Why can't we just start putting our hand up and say "yeap I fscked up, my bad" and get on with out lives?? Why do we need to point the finger at others to try and shift the blame (which in most cases we know the offender anyway), just take the ego hit and get on with life. (Plus these days, anyone who thinks rugby league players are role-models needs their head read! )
OK rant levels returning to normal
I went out and brought the new Gomez album today - its really good btw. But that isn't why I'm writing this, when I brought the album I didn't notice that it had copy-protection on it. I did notice before I put it into my computer to rip it to iTunes but I expected it to cause iTunes to have problems (like The Cat Empire album did), but the copy protection is so useless that iTunes ripped it first go with no problems! If I was EMI, I would be asking for a refund from the manufactures of the copy protection.
Anyway, I'm out.
Later,
Steve
