He's alive!!!!Date: 10/07/2003 Well I'm nearly back to full strength, so to make up for lost time I'm going on a rampage of civil disobedience!
First in the line of sight is the OFLC (the censorship people). I really don't like being told what I can and can't watch when I'm 26 years old! I don't care for the argument that without censorship we all go getting child porn, I'm sure most people moral code will make sure it doesn't happen (what is it with everyone assuming we are vegetables that can't think for ourselves??). Plus by the time child pornography is on film, you are too late!! The damage has been done and going after the people viewing it will prove fruitless (as they will all move to programs like freenet where they can't be traced) and won't stop the original people hurting more children.
Err, sorry getting a bit off topic.
Anyway I'm thinking about downloading Ken Park, just to see if all the fluff recently about it is worth it. If this had of been of been allowed to be seen then I don't think anyone would have really cared (well except the professional complainers you see in the letters to the editor each day - I wonder if they keep a scrapbook of all their whining?).
Second in line is the ARIA/RIAA (the music pigfucker! Can I call them pigfuckers? Maybe only their friends can call them pigfuckers! Apologies to Matt and Trey for lifting that bit ) I'm so sick of being considered a criminal by these people! When I buy a CD (and I do, well used to before being treated like this!) I want to take it home and play it on any CD player I choose, I don't want to be told I can't play it on my computer without installing stuff - if its a CD then I want to used the standard CD player.
Plus I find it funny that these people are calling us criminals when they are the worst of all! They manage to set the price *cough* price-fixing *cough*. Now most people know about supply and demand, if people are willing to pay $25 for a CD then good on them for charging that but when times change (oh like a recession) people won't be willing to pay as much for it. Now stop blaming piracy (why is it called piracy - I'm yet to see a photo of people copying music by boarding other vessels!) and realise that it is tougher times and people would be happy to pay say $15 for a CD but not $25! The drop in sales has little to do with piracy and a lot to do with the music industry giving us the same crap over and over again (where have the good bands like NIN or Vast gone, instead I'm treated to this months Britney rip-off), and expecting us to pay through the nose for the privilege.
But their naughtiness doesn't end there! No, by trying to put copy protection on CDs they are breaking the red book standard, which is required for a disc to be called a CD. When a disc conforms to this standard it can them play on any CD player. Therefore by putting the nasties on the copy-protected discs they can't call them CDs but they still do! When I was looking at buying Radiohead's new album (before I realised it was crippled), I noticed on several spots where they referred to it as a compact disc, which is false advertising! Tsk tsk for shame!!
I could go on about their treatment of artists, but I will let you have the fun of trying to find information on that (ok, I can’t remember the link and can’t be bothered to use Google ) But lets just say for all the “won’t someone please think of the artists!!” from the music companies, its interesting to see how they really think of them!
Because I’m a firm believer in two wrongs make a right (it the only way to teach some people ). I’m thinking of downloading as much music as I think is missing from my collection (which fortunately isn’t much thanks this the rubbish they are pumping out at the moment!). If you treat me like a criminal, I’m going to behave like one! Maybe one day they will realise that if they treat us like consumers they might not end up becoming bankrupt as everyone moves away from being treated like this.
Anyway, I’m off to shave (you have to look your best when you take on the enemy, it’s a confidence thing )
Later,
El naughty boy!
PS Final thought of the day goes to Roger Daltrey of the who fame. He said, "Ask any man what he would prefer--to live to a ripe old age and die alone or to go out shagging your balls off with strippers in Vegas? Come on, let's be honest. It's not a death that any man should be ashamed of."
